Deadlines

 (Photo cred BuzzFeed)
Deadlines are usually mushy concepts to me. Mr. Wonderful says I get in this creative Time Warp thing and it’s rare that I emerge from it at the precise time I’m supposed to.
My second book is “supposedly” arriving at the publisher in about two weeks…probably….

Never in my life have I found so many other things that needed to be done as when I’m on a deadline: cleaning the ceiling fan, clearing out the lint trap for the dryer, organizing the office, filing.

FILING PEOPLE!!!

I may need an intervention.

Breathing is Under-Rated

  (Photo cred The Berry)
Mr. Wonderful has asthma. This time of year breathing isn’t one of those things we take for granted.

We have inhalers stashed everywhere. We have a plan when the inhalers don’t work. We have lived with the not-breathing thing for awhile and have made modifications to our world.

Because breathing is just something most of us take for granted.

We breathe in and out, go about our daily lives. Live as if we have all the time in the world. And then something happens that knocks the wind out of us and we can’t seem to catch our breath.

That’s when out breathing becomes labored. When we have to fight just to remember to breathe in.

If you brought some junk with you from last year–hurt, anger, bitterness, sadness, defeat, despair–maybe take a moment today to just breathe.

Remind yourself to breathe in, then breathe out. Give yourself a moment to catch your breath. And then begin to let go of those things that are already weighing you down this year.

It won’t happen overnight, so be sure to give yourself a break. It will happen one breath at a time.

Dreams

Anyone else out there ever struggle with your dreams? I don’t mean the ones that happen while you’re zzz-ing, I’m talking about the ones you have for your life.

The older I get the harder it seems to have dreams, much less chase them. There are so many responsibilities in my plate as a grownup that I keep scootching things around to try to make room for the dream parts.

I think these obstacles, though I tire of them regularly, are good for me as I’m chasing my dreams. If the things I wanted for myself and my family were easy, everyone would have them.

I’m sort of in the middle of a funk/pity party/vent sesh, so you’ll have to excuse me as I work some things out while I write. I’m trying to get through the yuck to remind myself I have so many things to be grateful for despite being inconvenienced or cranky or busy-fied.

Apparently I put on the wrong pants today when I was dressing in the dark!

So I’m writing to remind myself more than anything. I’m remembering my blessings. I’m focusing on the positives. I’m redoubling my dream-chasing efforts.

And I’m not going to let a few obstacles like time or kids or responsibilities or things sometimes not going how I want them to go to stop me.

I bet I’m not alone in needing a little encouragement today. Do you need some too? Do you need to be reminded that your dream chasing is important? And that those specific seeds were placed in you because you have a destiny.

You can ignore it or go for it. I’m choosing to go for it today.

What are you choosing? Let’s encourage each other to be brave, be thankful, and be on the lookout for opportunity.

Good talk y’all, thanks!

Monday Coffee Quote

This is my plan for today. Mondays are tough sometimes, lots of To Dos piling up on your list, stresses or worries getting you down before you even get started.

But I would encourage you to look at this Monday as a clean slate, especially if last week didn’t work out so well. Start over, do better, love harder, smile more. There’s something to be grateful for, now get out there and have a blessed day!

Square One

I need a mulligan for this week already! I don’t golf, but as I undertand it, a mulligan is basically like a do-over.

Yes please.

First my coffee shop closed. Yeah, I was disappointed but I deal. Then I received an email that a friend’s husband had passed away and heard that another dear friend has breast cancer.

And today my husband’s clinic–the Patriot Clinics that serve vets at no cost–closed its doors. Mr. Wonderful has been receiving hyperbaric oxygen chamber treatment for his PTSD and traumatic brain injury and its one of the few things that has had a positive effect on him without the crazy side effects of post meds used to treat the symptoms of PTSD.

The clinic treats vets with diginty and provided treatment that has great results but that the VA and insurance won’t pay for. I don’t know why but I’m sure it has something to do with the almighty dollar. And until they either get their electrical issues resolved or find funds to move to a new place, we’re back at square one for treatment.

I’m so tired of square one.

Used to when a lot of bad things happened all at once I would just throw a party of the pity kind. Now I realize that when there seem to be so many obstacles and troubles and everything going completely wrong, it’s actually a sign that I’m getting close to whatever it is I’ve been working towards.

Obstacles are meant to keep us down. Trip us up. Make us lose our breath or step or mind. But it’s when those obstacles keep piling up that I know to look around because my miracle is coming.

All this bad news is meant to crush me, to derail me from writing and cheering people on and trying to serve and be a blessing. All this grossness is meant to clog up my soul like a hairball clogs up a sink.
It won’t work.

I know that our miracles are coming so I am going to keep on keeping on to do my part. I’ll pray. And I’ll keep my chin up and try my best to bring my A game, no matter what obstacles jump into my path.

If you find yourself at square one today, take heart and take hope. Your miracle could be right around the corner too.

Fearless Friday!

What you can’t see in this photo is the superhero staring at the giant hill he’s about to ride his sister’s bike down. She was too scared so he said he would do it for her.

What hill are you facing today? Is it more of a mountain? Whatever it is, put your superhero cape on, stare it down, then go for it! Remember, faith as small as a mustard seed moves mountains-
